I have never been in a third world country, but I know that there are millions who thirst throughout the world each day. Sometimes I take the abundance of water in my life for granted.
Today's readings at Mass spoke about the River of water that flowed from the temple. In the Gospel, Jesus sees a man who for too long, had languished by the healing waters of a pool, unable to move himself towards this source of healing. No surprise, that Jesus cured him.
Jesus is active in my world too. The waters of my discipleship, from my baptism, keep flowing into my life through the sacraments and other sources of God's grace to me. Sometimes, I take the abundance of God's love for me and my Faith for granted.
I need to use these gifts wisely. I am grateful for the abundance of these and all that God has given to me. I will spend some time today in prayer in gratitude for all the ways God has used water to bless me. May this same water, cleanse me inwardly during my Lenten journey.
