Life happens. Sometimes we don't always like the way it happens, but it happens anyway! In today's Gospel, Jesus makes a simple statement that puts all this "happening" in perspective: "Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet not one of them has escaped the notice of God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows."
God values us beyond our imaginings. We are precious. That's why Jesus became incarnate in Mary's womb, and became just like us, in all things but sin. That's why he walked the earth and taught us how to live up to the great value and dignity which is ours. That's why he suffered and died for us. That's why he said "I am with you all days, until the end of time."
When life gets "hairy" or lack of, and things seem to be going all downhill, we know that we are not alone and that this present roadblock is not the end of our road. God is our Alpha and Omega, our Beginning and our END. God is where our road, instead of ending, will just begin. We are of such great worth to God that we are invited to live eternally in heaven. And on our journey there, we have the constant companionship of the Risen Christ and His Holy Spirit.
We can take the "happenings" of life because we know there is more. It is most certainly worth the effort, don't you think?
