Peter and John were walking when they heard and saw a lame person crying out for alms. As they looked at him intently, and Peter said “Look at us. I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk.” The person was restored to health through the power of the Risen Christ.
Power is a god for some people. Some use power to feed their sense of low self-esteem. Some use power to control people and situations. Some use power to accumulate more and more money and things. Some use power to serve and to heal.
Those called Christians choose the Risen Christ as their only source of personal power. They try to open themselves up to be empowered to love, through the presence of his grace and his Holy Spirit. The power they use is a selfless power. It does not hoard things. It does not hurt others. It does not boast of anything but the Lord Jesus! The power they use is a healing power.
Peter and John had come to know this after the RESURRECTION and after many times of their running after a personal power that would signify that they had "arrived." They came to know that the kind of power Jesus gives is a power that
helps others "arrive" at only one thing: acknowledging the presence and power of Christ working in the here and now of their lives.
What kind of power do I seek? What kind of power to I use in my daily life? Lord Jesus, my Resurrection, my LIFE and my Power, help me to search for and to choose only the power you can give. May I be an instrument of healing power for all others I meet today.
